Dr. Brian O'Malley received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from The Ohio State University. He then attended graduate school at The Ohio State University, completing a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy in Counseling Psychology.

During a two-year internship in Physical Medicine at The Ohio State University, Dr. O'Malley was introduced to interdisciplinary rehabilitation. Since receiving his doctorate in 1978, Dr. O'Malley has devoted his practice to the rehabilitation of individuals with chronic pain. Following graduation, Dr. O'Malley practiced at the Charlotte Institute of Rehabilitation from 1979 to 1981 and was involved in the development and implementation of the Pain Rehabilitation Service, the first interdisciplinary pain rehabilitation program in North Carolina.

In 1981, Dr. O'Malley returned to Ohio State University as an assistant professor in the Departments of Physical Medicine and Psychiatry. He was also the Director of the Pain Management Program. Dr. O'Malley returned to North Carolina in 1986, and one year later founded The Rehab Center, an outpatient interdisciplinary rehabilitation facility. For the past 28 years, Dr. O'Malley has remained committed to the effective treatment of patients suffering from chronic pain and trauma.

Dr. O'Malley is a member of the American Psychological Association, the North Carolina and Ohio Psychological Associations, the American Pain Society and the International Association for the Study of Pain.
